Glory to the new born King!

Hey Hey Hey

I had a good Christmas. I did get a hold of Scott and Kevin. It was really nice talking to you all. It was good to hear that Ben got his mission call to San Diego. It's almost as good as Vegas. haha jk Congrats to Ben, I'm happy for him.

For Christmas we went from member to member eating, talking and being cheery. We got alot of candy and chocolate. Good stuff.

Missionary work was hard to do over the holidays but we did have a great lesson with Linda on Christmas Eve Eve. She is such a sweet lady. She really loves having us over. She has a lot of questions. We answer them the best we can and she says that we are "smart like whips." She is slowly progressing but she definitely feels the Spirit.

I love you. Keep praying for me and my companion.

Somebody took a huge bite out of my pickle then threw it away.

Hey

I'm in Reno now covering the Mount Rose and South Meadow Wards. The ride up here was ridunkulous. It's so looooong. The only exciting thing that happened was that Elder Checketts got pulled over on the way here. haha I got some good pictures of that. Other than that, the scenery was nice... a nice big flat desert..... so cool. At least I get a white Christmas. There is plenty of snow here. I'm lovin it and I'm lovin the car.

I met some old friends up here and my new companion. Elder Smith is an interesting character. He wants to be a magician when he gets off his mission. He has potential but right now we've got to focus on the work.

The work here is a little slow but we are trying hard to build it back up. We do have a couple of investigators though. There is a really sweet lady we are teaching named Susan. She really nice and always smiling. I'm not sure if she's all there, but she wants the lessons. She loves having us over.

Well, that's pretty much it. For now I'm just trying to get settled in and get familiar with my new area. The Church is the same here in Reno too! It must be true. One Lord, one faith, one baptism. So there must be one church. The truth is restored!

Gah, transfers

Yo,

We had a busy week. We had a Christmas zone conference Wed, I had my 4th bike wreck on Friday, we had baptisms on Saturday (Danielle and Aalahni Cowart) and I'm getting transferred to Reno. Hurray! (sarcasm)

I'm going to Reno tomorrow (8 hour bus ride). My new companion is Elder Smith and I'm District Leader.

The Baptism went very well. Danielle picked me to baptize her and Aalanhi picked Touchin. I also got the opportunity to baptize DeAngelo Brooks (8) who is their younger brother. It really was an amazing experience. Touchin was so excited because this was the first time he got to baptize someone on his mission. It was great.

Zone conference was awesome. It was really spiritual and uplifting. Wow. And the Relief Society did a awesome job with lunch. We got to give out presents also. We couldn't spend money on it so I gave someone a coupon for a free magic trick. haha. Elder Shanks really liked it and he is working on it. I got a sick tie for Christmas.

Well, I got to get back to packing now. haha. The Church is true ladies and gentlemen. As Elder Lang would say. "I think you should pray about it."

You so cute

Subject Line: You can't mess with the best in Las Vegas West.

Hello

Well it's really cold out here. I had to go buy thermals. That's right, I am wearing thermals in Vegas in the middle of the desert. Who would have thought that would ever happen?

Fun fact: the strip was built exactly in line with a fault line and when there is a big earthquake the whole strip will sink in the ground and will be swallowed up. It will happen someday. No wonder missionaries can't go on the strip. haha

So Saturday we went yard-saling and ran into this Mexican lady. She was so funny because she kept saying " Ohh, my, you so cute, I sell you jewelry for your girlfriend, really good deal." Then I explained that I didn't have a girlfriend because we are Missionaries. Then she said "Why you have no girlfriend, you so cute." I just kept laughing. She told us about her daughter and how she is really beautiful because she is half Mexican and half white. She said "half white babys are soo cute. You so cute." She kept calling me that. It was a little freaky. I was afraid she was going to offer me her daughter so I wanted to get out of there. Then she gave me a whole bunch of ties for free and we gave her a pass along card and left. That was weird.

We taught a guy named Frank the other day. What was cool about this guy is he said some of the same things Joseph Smith had said when he was searching for the truth. Things like " I'm concerned for my soul". Frank is an older guy and he wants to know where he is going when he leaves this temporary world. So we taught a lesson and invited him to Church. He said he would next week but not yesterday because he already promised another church he would come that day. So I look forward to teaching him again on Tuesday and then seeing him on Sunday.

The Church is true. It makes sense. All you have to do is pray about it.
Love ya.

Show me, not tell me

Subject Line: Sorry, Mom, I'm never coming home

Hola

It was an OK week. It's cold. I love it! We had alot of appointments fall through so our stats were kinda low, but we must press onward. No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing.

We did have a great lesson with Juanita and Travelius. Travelius is right on the money. We were teaching some of the commandments. He used to be Baptist and the main reason he doesn't go there anymore is because the preachers say one thing then do another. He says, "show me, not tell me". That's when we committed them again to follow the example of Christ and be baptized. He said, "yes, I have to. My decision has not changed."

Another reason that he didn't like the Baptist religion is the collection plate. He said that if you go to a Baptist church they will pass around a collection plate at least 6 times. And then they post it on a projector how much people have donated. We were just about to teach the law of tithing when he said " if I understand the bible correctly, it should be 10% of your increase." That blew me away. My companion and I looked at each other and just laughed. We told him that's right. Its in Malachi. Then he goes "yes! exactly!" Juanita is bawling at this point. She always feels the Spirit whenever we give lessons. She knows it's true. Travelius knows it's true. They have accepted baptism. The only thing now is to get them married and to get them to come to church. They work a lot so it's hard. But they really really want to go.

Well, that's my spiritual experience of the week. The church is true. It makes sense.

It was President Lincoln

Subject Line: Missionaries who go foreign leave boys and come back men. Missionaries who go stateside leave men and come back leaders!

Hola,

Sorry, Mom. It was President Lincoln who was the first president to check out the Book of Mormon out of the Library of Congress.

Fun fact: in Vegas you can make as much noise as you want from 7 am to 10 pm and no one can do anything about it. But once it hits 10, it's quiet time or else the PO-PO are called.

We lost our car!!! Nooooo!!!!!! Elder Touchin's hand has healed so now we are back on bike. Baby its cooold outside! Winters here are so painful. Even when you are wearing a sweater the windchill pierces you to the bone. Oh well, more blessings for us.

Our teaching pool is very big now. I dont even know where to start. We have a couple of baptisms coming up on Nov 28. Daniel Grantham (11) asked me to baptize him on that day. I was so honored. It made me feel good. He will be my first baptism ever in the mission and I have the opportunity to baptize him. I feel so blessed. I know that I am.

The other baptisms we have that day will be Antonio who has just been waiting to be baptized for awhile now. Then there is Jessica who has been waiting too. She had some Work of Wisdom issues but it's not a problem anymore.

I'm praying so hard for these people because I know now that now they have accepted baptism that Satan will work VERY hard on them. I've seen it already on Juanita and Travelius. They are still going strong but they can feel Satan trying to get a grip on them. We taught them the 3rd lesson and broke the news to them that they need to get married before they are baptized. They said they have been thinking about it already. I hope and pray for them everyday, because I love them and I want them to be happy.

We have been visiting a less active family called Brooks. They are so cool. Sister Brooks has 8 kids in a two bedroom apartment. It's really hard for them but they are coming back to Church and stay happy. They taught us the soulja boy the other day. Now I finally know how to do it! I can also so the clown walk too. They say I'mm a quick learner. haha I love that family.

My companion was sick for 2 days this week and it drove me nuts. I was stuck in the apartment doing nothing but reading my scriptures. Halfway through the 2nd day I called my district leader and begged him to go on splits. So he came over and saved me. I went with his comp and we tracted out a neighborhood that I have been wanting to go to for awhile now. We got 2 return appointments and handed out a Book of Mormon. It felt so good to get out of there.

The Church is true. It makes sense. I love you

It Makes Sense!

Subject line: High on the mountain top!

Hey!

That's right, we went to the mountain of the Lord today. Ahhh, it feels good. That temple is beautiful. I got all the names done and I sent them today. If I'm still in Red Rock zone you can send a lot more cards cuz this zone is pretty big.

What does Dad do for work again. Everyone keeps asking me for some reason. He never talks about work. The IRS right? Probably just a cover-up though. Probably CIA. Probably got tortured too and that's why his mouth is disintegrating.

Sorry, I'm really, really tired because we played football all day for P day. We are training for the turkey bowl. It was fun.

You know what's funny? Natives (people born and raised in Vegas) don't really care for the strip. Some have never even gone on it. It's just not a big deal here.

What is Kevin's address? I want to write Luke, Ryan, and Colin and get them pumped for a mission. By the way, Luke looks scary. He looks like a man. Totally freaky. I don't even want to know what Jeff looks like. Tell Keith to come down here and take me out to lunch. I'm hungry. haha.

Fun fact I learned from this movie called Prophets and Presidents. Who was the first president to check out the Book of Mormon from the Library of Congress? I will tell you next week.

So here's the highlight of my week. Juanita and Travlius (it sounded like he said Travis) are doing good. We taught them the Plan of Salvation and it was way Spiritual. Oh wow. The promise in D&C is true. "open your mouths and i will fill them". It is flowing so well. The Spirit just hits them. And guess what Travlius said about the Plan of Salvation "it makes sense!"
It truly does. I know it's true. It's all in the scriptures. I have prayed about it and I cannot deny the feelings of the Holy Ghost. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the only true Church upon the face of the earth. It contains the fullness of the Gospel. All you have to do is humble yourself and sincerely ask our Father in Heaven in the name of Jesus Christ if it is true. I testify that he will answer you by the power of the Holy Ghost.

Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ live. They love us. The truth has been Restored.

It makes sense.

An amazing experience!

Subject Line: Smile! God loves you!

Yooooo

I'm sick. But I don't care cuz I'm in Vegas baby! I'm pretty sure it's not swine flu. Thanks for the Halloween candy. I especially liked the Twix when it said you could win a trip to Vegas haha. It was soo cold outside that I got to wear a sweater! I was so happy. And we saw Cameron Steel at Chipotle. I have to shave three times a week now instead of just twice. ugh Lame. Having a car is amazing. Downside... trying to keep the weight off.

I had a amazing experience this week that I want to share with everyone.

My companion and I had been feeling very down lately for many reasons. Things had not been going well for us, meaning the work was a little slower than usual. We were visiting all of our referrals and none of them answered their doors until we got to the last referral. Juanita and Travis. We knocked on their door and I was still feeling a little discouraged until they opened the door and said "we have been waiting for you". I was like whoa. I thought that only happens in Church movies.

They had just entered in about 2 minutes before we knocked. We went in and talked with them a little bit. Juanita's sister had just been baptized a couple months ago so that's what got her interested. They were raised Catholic. Her boyfriend, Travis, is Baptist but he hasn't been to a church in 3 years. He said that it just doesn't feel right.

We explained a little bit about our Church and what we believe and Travis was like "that makes sense!" Travis was "hooked" from then on. We left after a little bit and came back that evening because they had things to do. Our appointment was at 7 but we were running a little late. We pulled into their apartment right behind this white car at 7:15. We followed that car all the way to Juanita's apartment. It turned out to be Juanita and Travis. Travis was tripping out because if we had gotten to the appointment on time, then we would have probably missed them and he was worried about that.

We went in again and taught them the first lesson. We taught them about how Christ led by example by being baptized. Travis was like "that makes so much sense! Baptist preachers these days tell you one thing but show you another". Then he began to tell us about how his Grandma has been coming to him in his dreams for the past couple of weeks and she kept saying "you know what you got to do". Travis now understands what she meant. The Spirit was so strong and it prompted me to commit them to baptism. I did and they said yes. Juanita and Travis were both crying and it was just a wonderful experience. It totally made my week.

We gave them a Book of Mormon and he just flipped it open to 3 Nephi 18 : 5 [5 And when the multitude had eaten and were filled, he said unto the Disciples: Behold there shall one be ordained among you, and to him will I give power that he shall break bread and bless it and give it unto the people of my church, unto all those who shall believe and be baptized in my name] and said once again "that makes sense."

The Church is true. It makes sense. I love you all. Thank you for your support and prayers. And smile, God loves you!

Just open the dam and baptize the heck out of them!

Subject Line: No more fried chicken! pleeease!

Nasty

Cool beans

First thing. Can I have some more stamps por favor?

Second thing. I saw Herbie the race car! No joke.

So concerning Dad's emailing idea, here is what I think. You know some won't like it. Some may not care. Some may like it. But I wouldn't do it. This is what I've noticed: If their hearts aren't prepared it will only push them away. So I would wait til they come to you. They know that your offer is always there. Their hearts need to be softened a little bit though. Well, that's what I noticed in Vegas but it could be totally different over there. As Elder Lang always says "I think you should pray about it."

This week has been really cool. We got a car! Temporally, but yay! President has noticed that our stats are going good and we are on foot. So he wants to see how we could do with a car. Sick! "just open the dam and baptize the heck out of them!"

We had to give a 1 am blessing the other night. It was cool because it was a less active referral we had visited a couple days before and we gave them our number. His grand daughter was really sick so he called us up. Coincidence? I think not! (what's that from, haha)

So I was chilling at a stop light and I was looking at the don't walk light across the street. I said to my companion "Dude, I swear ever third blink is slower" he was like "what?" I laughed.

Papa Joe is doing pretty good. We had to push back his baptismal date to November but he is still progressing. We have been running into a lot of people, some less active families who want their kids to be baptized. So we could have up to 15 baptisms next month. That would be phat!

Touchin is the man. He's way cool. I love that guy. He is the storyteller and I am the magician. He is Navajo. I don't remember if I told you that before.

So things are going good. No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing. Boo yah. Love ya

Mormonaries

Subject line: What's with these homies dissing the truth?

Hello (hello) hello (hello), we welcome you today.

We had a very successful week. We had a lot of lessons last week and it felt good. My feet don't feel so good but it's worth it.

We had a great lesson with Papa Joe. He is way cool and funny. We were teaching him the plan of salvation and about the 3 kingdoms. We told him how the scriptures compare the Celestial kingdom to the sun and he said he didn't want to go there because it sounded like hell. Haha, he was just joking but I laughed out loud. It was funny. We taught him the 3rd lesson (the Gospel of Jesus Christ) a couple days ago. We also taught him the Word of Wisdom. He had some issues there so we had to push back his baptismal date to Nov 7th. He's doing good though. He called me and told me that he hasn't smoked in 4 days now. He is a great guy and he will make a great member of the Church. He is excited to be baptized. The only thing he worries about is the calling that comes afterward, haha.

We also taught a guy named Antonio who has just been waiting to be baptized. He has been on parole and he can't wait till he's off it so he can be baptized. He has been taught the lessons like 4 times and knows it's true and wants to change. So we are teaching the lessons to him again until he can be baptized on Nov 27.

I don't know if I already told you this but the wedding went well but she has kinda dropped off the face of the earth since then. We went over to her house but she couldn't let us in because her and her family all have Swine Flu. That reminds me. Mission Medical wants all the missionaries to take the flu shot and the Swine Flu shot but we had to ask our parents first. It's $25 each. What do you think. I heard that the Swine Flu vac has mercury in it? umm... Should I do it?

We climbed Red Rock last week for pday with a member. It wasn't like rock climbing more like hiking so its OK. I'm not breaking any rules doing that. We are just BRTing with the member and trying to get his butt on a mission. I think it's working. He likes to hang out with us. I got some sweet pics that I'll send soon. That was a sick mountain.

We met a kid named Skylar from Ohio. We were just walking along (ugh, no bike) and we started talking and he mentioned he was from Cleveland. I was like, cool, I'm from Cincinnati. Then he let us in his home to teach him. Sweet. We taught him a little about the restoration and the Plan of Salvation and we had a return appointment but that fell through. But we are going back later.

We caught a huge desert lizard the size of my hand and a couple of black widows. They look cool.

We were given a new nickname the other day by a less active member. "Mormonaries" haha, I like it.

As you can see we had a very busy, tiring but successful week. I've changed alot this past week. Spiritually and physically. Touchin has me on this sit up program that will get me a 6 pack in 3 months. I don't think its true so I'm just doing it to see if it works. It's only been a week but Touchin says I'm getting harder. I don't think I believe him though.
Anyway, I love you. The Church is true. God lives. Christ lives and he is our Savior. Hurrah for Israel!

Love
Elder Richards

PS Heather didn't send me the blog. That doesn't surprise me that Kristen would do that.

I will never complain about riding a bike ever again.

Subject line: and will you tell all your friends, the Gospel has been restored

Hey,

Sorry i have been writing small letters lately. We can't reserve computers so we have to use the 15 min computers. But today get a full hour, yay.

My neck is fine now. Elder Touchin gave me a blessing and it's all good now. He got his cast last week but still no bike so we are walking. President cant find us a car. Members give us rides every now and then but we are usually on foot. I will never complain about riding a bike ever again.

I thought of something interesting though. We are representatives of Jesus Christ. During his earthly ministry he didn't have a car, or even a bike. He WALKED 40 miles to John to be baptized by him because he held the Priesthood authority. I told my companion this and he said,"You're right. We are true disciples of Christ now." We aren't boasting though. That wouldn't be the Christ-like thing to do.

The wedding went well. It's my first wedding on the mission. Now that she is married she is eligible for baptism. She so excited too. She wants to be baptized as soon as possible. We are going to have to re-teach her the lessons though. Ugh and she lives far away and we are on foot. Oh well, more blessings for us.

I'll pray for Scott. Tell him to pray too. Has he been going to church? That can only help his back.

Anyway, I love my new companion, I love the work and I love you. Keep praying for me. The Church is true. Hurray for Israel!

Love,
Elder Richards

I concur: Elder Holland booyah!

Hola Bicicleta

1. The Temple is next transfer I think. Transfer calls are on the 31st (haha spooky) I will probably stay in this area so yes, I can go to the Temple. You can send the cards if you want.

2. No, I'll call her tonight

3. It's fine now so stop worrying about it. I just had my toenail cut out. The guy didn't charge me because he is LDS. It's fine.

4. I don't need anything. and I think the IPod covers Christmas so thank you.

5. Send the cards back with the pics still on them. I'm gonna copy them to a cd at Walmart. Did you put them on the blog?

Conference was sweeeeet. Holland dominated. That was powerful.

We have a couple baptisms coming up. This one lady, Jessica, actually came to us and said that she wanted to be baptised. Sweeet. She has already had the lessons and all she needs to do is get married to her boyfriend. She is doing that this Thursday (we are invited cool!) then baptism on Saturday.

We set a guy named Papa Joe with a baptismal date. Oct 17th. He is a really cool guy and he will make a great member.

Out of time. Stupid 15 min computers. Love ya all. Thanks for everything.

Crazy Week

Subject Line: Polynesian people are way too nice

Hey ya'll,

Crazy week. My companion, Elder Touchin, broke his hand riding his bike. And I woke up this morning with a messed up neck.

Things are going good though. We have been getting referals like crazy.

We have a couople of baptisms coming up soon. I'll tell you more about it next week when I have more time. I only have 7 mins left.

Love you all.

Transfers-300 miles every half transfer

Hello

gah, I'm getting transferred. I'm going to Meadows 1st and 3rd Ward. It's by where the 95 curves from East and West to North and South. Deuce. Packing is annoying but I'm making it. Still on a bike, though.

We go an average of 300 miles every half transfer. We got a speedometer. Anyway, I have been here for 3 transfers now so 600 x 3 equals 1800 miles. Wow. That's pretty crazy. I can definitely feel it.

It's so worth it though.

Anyway nothing new here either. Just transfers. My new companion is Elder Touchin. He better not try and touch me. I'll smack him. Just kidding. I hear he is pretty cool so I'm not too worried.

Well, I love you guys. Thanks for everything. The IPod is good. I love the talks. It's perfect, thanks. Look up TOA on ITunes. Their album is called Silence. They are way good.

Just learn from it and move on

subject line: The members feed us too much, haha

Hey everyone,

No, I don't need the cards yet. We go to the Temple every 3 months and we just went at the beginning of this transfer. So I won't be going to the Temple again till the transfer after next. That's if I'm still in Vegas. I might get transferred way far away where we are unable to go to the Vegas or Reno Temple.

This week has been crazy. Not a good crazy. It seems like you all have been going through a hard time too. That's life. [Note: I do not know what Elder Richards is refering to here. jer]

So I guess the biggest change would be that we are not living with the Toblers anymore. Let's just say that my companion isn't the easiest guy to get along and this is the first time he has had to live with members.

Well, Brother Tobler is one of the nicest guys ever but you DO NOT want to tick him off. So, to make a long story short, we are no longer living with the Toblers. We are staying with the Williams until President McCracken can figure something out.

It's kinda depressing because I love Brother Tobler. I love him and his family and I have bonded with them. I can't help but love them. They are a great, strong faithful family. I wish that I could have stayed but my companion cannot. I'm gonna miss them.

So that was my big experience for the week. It totally stinks but I have to just learn from it and move on. There is more work for me to do. I trust that the Lord knows what is best for me and for my area.

I love you all, thank you for your prayers and support. They really help.

Help! I can't see. It's dark in here. And I can hear laughing.

Hola

Sorry I couldn't email yesterday. The library was closed.

Thanks for sending the IPod. I haven't gotten it yet but the ZL's (Zone Leaders) should call me when it comes in. I really appreciate it.

Transfer calls are coming up not this Saturday but the one after that. I have a feeling that I'm going to be transferred. I don't want to go. But now that I just said that, I will.

It's funny how the Lord works. You get comfortable then BAM! He throws a nice hard challenge at you.
Or you think everything is going great and you're on top of the world then BAM! Humbling experience.

That's how I feel at the moment. Everything was going great with Peter and now he won't even accept our calls.
Quierston (another investigator) is really hard to get hold of because she has started school now.
Cole (the recent convert who looks like Brian) hasn't been to Church in awhile. He came this week though so things are getting better.
Courtney (another recent convert) is having a hard time with life and I don't know how to help her.

I love all of these people. I want to help them. That's the main reason that I want to stay. I'm doing my best. Just keep praying for me.

I love you all. Again thanks for all of your support.

Vegas is waaaaay better

Hola Bicicleta,

It's hot out here. Tell Beth Vegas is waaaaay better. The members are nicer too :P

I have a Canon power shot A1000 IS. The reason my pictures are so nice is because I know how to hold a camera still. ooooo Ellen, you just got burned!

We caught a awesome tarantula a couple days ago. It's huge. We still have it. We put it in some 2 part resin to make it into a little statue thing. It didn't turn out very well but I like it. I'll send pics or will try to on the email.
I want to see pictures of England too.
And, could you send me the best picture you can find of Phat Eric?

Oh and next time we go to the Temple you can send a lot more.

No more elementary school? Now that is weird.

The work is still chugging along. No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing. We visited a couple less active families and they were so excited to see us. They said that we arrived at the perfect time because they have been wanting to come back to Church.
Faith plus prayer equals the Lord provides.
boo yah.

There was a incident with Peter so he needs a little time right now. That's a bummer. But, he said that he will call us when he is ready. All we can do is pray now.

Thanks for everything!
Love you all.

Coincidence.....I THINK NOT!

Definition of "shizzle": Shizzle just means like "awesome" or "tubular"

Yo,

Last week was okay. Peter still hasn't fully committed to baptism but he is getting there inch by inch. I'm pretty sure it will happen. He just needs to continue praying. He misses Elder Scott though. Elder Crumly is a good teacher but everyone teaches different. He still likes me though.

Tell Beth that I want to meet her future English husband before she gets married to him. He will probably be loaded so he won't mind taking a trip to Vegas. Hey, maybe they could get married in the Vegas Temple so that I can come. I can totally get that approved. hahaha.

Had a awesome experience at the Temple today. I did do the names you sent me and I will send those out today along with the camera card. Anyway we have a part member family that we have been working with and I have been praying like crazy to know what to teach them. The thing about this family is that the wife knows alot about the Church--like she went to Seminary and everything. She has read the Book of Mormon but she has also read alot of anti stuff too so she has a lot of questions. She wants them all answered but we don't know all of the answers. So, I have been struggling on what to teach her. We finally got them to agree to sit down with us so we can teach Brittney. Jason wants to be active but he doesn't want to go to Church without her. And it's hard to schedule an appointment with them because they are both nurses and work alot.

So, we were in the Temple and I ran into Jason's parents. Coincidence... I THINK NOT! I talked with them for awhile and they told me to work with Jason. They think that if he goes she will follow but that he is afraid she wont like it. So I have an idea now of what their needs are. That was cool.

Anyway thanks for everything. Love ya all. Keep praying for me.

Love,

Elder Richards

PS Brian, I don't care. GI Joe is balderdash!

We are here to help everyone.

Subject Line of Letter: Ellen, just give Zac Efron like another 2 months.

Hola,

Cool beans. Well, transfers are tomorrow. Elder scott is going to Reno north to be a Zone Leader. haha. He skipped District Leader and went straight to ZL. Only one other Elder (Elder Smith) has done that and he is now AP (Assistant to the President). haha. He is super nervous about it.

I'm staying here at the West Oquendo Ward. My new companion is Elder Crumly. He is in my district so I know who he is so that's a relief. I don't have to worry about getting someone I have never heard of before.

Things are going good. Peter is still progressing. We showed him the hour long restoration video. You probably saw it at Palmyra. It's way spiritual. Anyway, after we saw it we all prayed together one by one to help Peter know it is true. Then he prayed. The Spirit was way strong. Peter could just see the love we have for him. He recognizes that we love him and we don't just want to convert him and get more members. We are here to help everyone. I think when people finally realize that, that's when their hearts are softened.

This is soo cool. I can't believe I have already been out almost 4 months already. Man time flies.

Stay cool everyone.

Not fair, puppy eyes never worked for me

subject line of email: Not fair, puppy eyes never worked for me, haha [refers to how Beth got Dad to let her have a kitten in the house]

Hola

Yes, I got the mini Preach My Gospel. It's great. Thanks

The temple date is the 19th, I think. It's like the beginning of the next transfer. My friend from EFY should be coming in this transfer. Cool beans

Nauvoo is the schizzle. A lot of people here have never seen the Nauvoo Temple. I've been there 5 times. Totally sweet.

The only news I have is Peter is still progressing. He is keeping the commitments and he really wants to know if it is true. He grew up Catholic and his only hang up is that he feels the Spirit when we teach him. But he also felt the Spirit when he went to his other church too. We told him that the Catholic church has partial truth but not the fullness. They testify of truth and the Spirit could tell you that what they said is true. But not all of it. That's kinda confusing.

Did Dad have any of the same experiences with his conversion? Any advice for Peter?

I love you all. Stay cool.

The story of the "Spirit Kid"

Guten Tag

Hey!

I had a super-awesome week. But first, I didn't send out the ticket stuff yet. I forgot. Sorry. I'll do it tomorrow. I won't forget.

The IPod. All that stuff is ok. There can be singing, you know, just appropriate singing. Beethoven and Hans Zimmer and all that is good. The Church music is good, too. Stuff that drives away the Spirit is the only stuff that isn't allowed.

I'm glad Jeff and Ellen had a good time. Who was Ellen's COW [crush of the week]? That story about Ben was scary. Whoa. I'm glad he's gonna be ok and Kristen, too--that little terrorist. haha.

So now, my awesome week. I have 3 great stories to tell. A funny one, a kinda bummer one and an awesome Spiritual one.

Wednesday was President interviews. The interviews are held at the Stake Center, which is at the other end of the area--like 5 miles away. We had to bike there. So we left the Toblers with plenty of time to get there but then right before we get to highway 215 to cross it (it's really tiring biking over that everyday because it's like a hill), we realized we forgot our President's letters at home. So we had to bike back fast and get them. By the time we did that we were running really late. So we had to bike fast to the Stake Center.
Well, the thing about riding in Vegas is that the wind blows crazy hard. But today the wind was blowing VERY hard against us. geez. Plus, it was 116 that day and we have to wear our suit jackets to the interview. We had to bike really fast because the wind was blowing against us and we were late. Well during that time I was sipping on my camel bak but I wasn't getting enough.
So when we finally got there about 7 mins late, we went in and we started stumbling around like drunk men. I was all lightheaded and was about to pass out. Then President McCracken came over shook my hand and pulled me into a hug. I almost puked on him. I was so close. I was dripping in sweat and just totally dehydrated. Then he looked at me and was like "Whoa sit down and get some water." oh man. I drained my camel bak and sat down and felt much better.
Elder Scott was like "Man, you almost puked on the President. That would have gone down in history. Everyone would know your name". haha. wow.

Another funny thing, I have Elder Scott convinced that I have Tourette's Syndrome. I haven't been cussing or anything. He was wondering why I was taking that medication. I told him it was for my Tourette's and that if I don't take it, I go crazy. He didn't believe me. Well, after we went out Bro Tobler got the name of my medication and went on the computer and printed an article off about Tourette's Syndrome. He copy and pasted it and added the name of my prescription into the article. hahahaha. So now Elder Scott is 100% convinced that I have it. I'm not telling him till he gets transferred. haha. But even then he probably still wouldn't believe that I DON'T have it. hahaha.

Next is the story of the "Spirit Kid", that's what I call him.
Elder Scott and I went to the drugstore down the street to get stuff. He ran and I biked along side him. He is a fitness freak that has to run everyday. Anyway, after we were done and we were walking out of the store, a blond-haired kid about 14 years old held the door open for us to leave. I thought "nice guy". Then I felt the Spirit prompting me just only slightly. Well, Elder Scott started running so I let it go. Then about halfway home, the same kid zoomed past us on his bike. Then the Spirit hit me strong. I wanted to talk to him and get to know him. I wanted to be his friend. I felt the Spirit telling me. I loved him even though I didn't know him. Well, Elder Scott kept running so i just watched what street the "Spirit Kid" went down. I regretted that I didn't talk to him. The next day I told my companion that we needed to tract that street, so we did. No luck. bummer.
I regret not listening to the Spirit at that moment. I knew that I needed to. But I'm praying that I can find him again. I'm confident that the Lord will provide. I have faith that I will meet the "Spirit Kid" again.

Next comes the Spiritual story.
Our investigator, Peter, is doing so well. He loves us and is excited to learn more. He fasted for 24 hrs so that he could receive an answer to know that what we are teaching is true. wow. It's just amazing the faith that he has. We fasted with him and I'm sure he will receive an answer.
So yesterday we taught the 3rd lesson and set him with a baptismal goal for August 22. He said that he wants to be sure, though, before he completely commits to it. I'm confident that he will receive that answer before we meet with him next time.
So after the lesson we went to a Missionary Fireside. It was fantastic. It was just what he needed. And, it was life changing for me. The spirit was so strong. President McCracken spoke and his counselors on faith, hope and charity. The musical numbers in between were incredible. 3 Samoan guys did this like barbershop trio thing with I Am a Child of God. Then a violin solo. oh wow.
Then some recent converts went up and bore their testimonies. It was awesome because some of the stuff they talked about was stuff that Peter is going through, the same struggles he had before he started investigating the Church. It was amazing and powerful.

Like I said before, that fireside was a turning point for me. My testimony has grown so much because of it. I know that this Church is true, that God lives, that He loves us. He sent his only begotten son, Jesus Christ, to atone for the sins of the world. I am so grateful for his selfless act of love. I'm so grateful for the knowledge I have of the Gospel, and for the scriptures. I love reading the scriptures. I learn so much everyday. I'm so grateful for this opportunity to share that knowledge with the people of Las Vegas. I love the people. I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Joseph Smith is a prophet and he restored the fullness of the Gospel here on earth, that he restored the Priesthood; the authority to act in God's name. I know it is true with all of my heart.

Thank you so much for your prayers, love and support. I love you all.

Love,
Elder Richards

I'm soo pumped

This letter was sent to Beth this week as she wrote instead of me. Elder Richards put the subject line of "England is lame. Vegas is much better."

Yo,

Thanks for the sisterly wisdom. It really helps. Especially now.

I found the flight stuff. I'll send it to her today or tomorrow. The flight number is DL1192. Could you guys put some Beethoven and some John Williams on the Ipod? I have been wanting to listen to some classical music for awhile now. I can only take so much of Mo Tab. thanks.

We got a investigator! I'm soo pumped. I might have told you this before but I'm excited. We have a lesson with him tonight. I hope and pray that it goes well. We are gonna try and set him with a baptismal date too. I told you that I would have a baptism before Harry Potter comes out. :P

I know that if he truly prays to know if the things we teach are true that he will recieve an answer. We have been focusing a lot on the Book of Mormon this transfer. We have been challenged by the ZL's to make that a focus of our teaching--or one of the focuses.

Thats pretty much it. My emails are getting more and more lame now. Sorry. Stay cool.

We have an investigator! Booyah

Hey!
OK first thing. That letter is from my English teacher Ms. Miller. Senior year we wrote letters to ourselves. I knew it was coming soon. I should have told you it would. Thanks for sending it to me.

My tooth feels fine now. But my teeth are weird. I think it's just gone into remission. That's what that tooth does. It hurts really bad for like a week. Then goes away just as quickly as it came. I'm fine, don't worry. I think the amoxicilon (cant spell) worked. It's all good now.

I did send that stuff in for my plaque. The scripture is Matt 28: 19-20.

I'm fine those bike wrecks weren't really like huge bike wrecks. But i have to bleach my shirts now.

Tell Ellen to suck it up haha. I'm tired all the time. It's 107 degrees outside.

OK so what is the problem with the Ipod?

Jeff is going to love EFY. I can't believe I'm saying this but he is a stud. lol. Beware of pride, though. Just because all the girls are gonna be over you doesn't mean you are better than anyone. haha.

I heard Micheal Jackson died. And the Oxyclean guy (he had a cool beard) and one of Charlies Angels. Isn't that weird that well known people usually die around the same time? Like Gordon B Hinckley and the Greek Priest (or something). Weird.

I also heard Robert Pattinson got hit by a taxi in NY while trying to run away from fans. hahahaha. Sorry but it proves he isn't a real vampire. He has spray on abs in the new movie. I saw in a magazine while chillin at the dentist's. haha.

The ceiling fan in our room broke. The good news is that I won't hit my face on it when I wake up anymore. Bad news... it's sooo hot I can barely sleep at night.

Sorry, I keep forgetting to get the flight ticket. I know it's in my suitcase somewhere. But I keep forgetting because we have been busy recently. We have a investigator! He is solid too. Booyah. Finally after much prayer fasting and searching, Heavenly Father provides us with a precious soul to teach. I'm not gonna lie. I was at my breaking point. I was feeling a little discouraged. I knew that this was going to be hard. But I also knew that if we had faith in the Lord that he would bless us for our dedication and efforts.

We have been working with a part member family. Jason and Brittney. Jason says that he would go to church if his wife would. He wants to but he doesn't want too go without her. He is gonna help us try to get her to Church and feel the spirit.

Howey (the huge Samoan) is doing really well. His bro Mark is still going to Church and now we are going to work with his other bro, Star and get him active. We can do it. As long as we have faith and trust in the Lord.

That's it for this week. We are still looking for more people. Just a lot of tracting and praying. Thank you for your prayers.

Love,
Elder Richards

Deuce

Hello

Ok, first thing--sorry, but I keep forgetting to look for the airline stuff. And please get that mini PMG. It would help out soo much. Are you going to send the Ipod or no?

It's 108 today. :) yay.

It rained a couple of days ago (weird). Anyway, when it rains in Vegas all the oil on the street comes out or something and it gets VERY slick. So we were biking home and it started to rain, just over us. And it followed us. Maybe Heavenly Father is trying to tell us something. Yeah, so we were biking home fast to get out from under the cloud. We were almost home when I hear (yes, I can hear even with my one ear) Elder Scott bailed and almost started crying. So I looked back and slammed on my brakes (not smart) and then I go flying too. Elder Scott got it worse but I ruined my shirt. My second bike wreck in a month. Maybe God is trying to tell me to step it up.

Glad to hear that Jeff and Brian are getting their Scout stuff done. Oh, man, I remember wilderness survival. That's a fun merit badge. I remember when I did the camp out requirement. It was super cold so I got up in the middle of the night and built a fire. Then I slept good.

haha Scout camp food was awesome at Friedlander. haha.

Well, thanks for the support. Hope Grandma's OK.

Love Elder Richards.

Apple juice and biking do not mix.

Hola,

Thanks for the email addresses. And yes,I did get the stamps, thank you. I hope your back is doing better.

We are still looking for people to teach. We have been working with this one less-active who is doing really well. His name is Howey. He is a huge Somoan who just started boxing. He won his first fight a couple days ago. Knockout 3rd round. Man, I wouldn't want to fight this guy. We taught him and his brothers the first lesson and it was awesome. His brothers, who are less active too, sat in and they really felt the Spirit. Oh, man, it was intense. We got one of them crying. Howey's brother Mark went to Church for the first time in 3 years. That makes me so happy. I have really learned to love the people here. Even the ones who yell cuss words at us while they drive by. haha.
It's just amazing what the Spirit can do to people.

Missionaries get free Slurpies at this one 7 eleven. It's cool.

By the way, apple juice and biking do not mix.

Jeff, Brian and Luke better get their Eagles. Hopefully before I get home. If they don't, I will beat them.

You can try sending pictures through email. Send a picture of phat Eric. My trainer would love that haha.

Oh, so my root canal starting hurting so I went to the dentist. Dont worry, it didn't cost anything because Sister Tobler's dad checked it. Missionaries get it free. My root canal might be failing so I'm taking antibiotics and praying that it works.

I had In N Out burger for the first time. Holy cow, it's amazing. They have a secret menu thing. Don't ever order a Flying Dutchman. It's a joke. It's $4 for two buns. Just fyi.

It's been cloudy and humid. It finally rained a little bit. So now it's super hot. geez.

I have a question. Is Ellen using my Ipod? Could you send me her other one and put like Mo Tab, Beethoven, and like John Williams and stuff on it? I already have speakers. If you won't send it, that's cool. I don't really care but it would be nice to have.

I will try to get the airport stuff. The only thing I know is that I flew out on May 18. So I'll look for that stuff.

That's pretty much it. Thanks for the support.

Love,
Elder Richards

I get macked in the face--thrice

Hello
I told you Cole looked like Brian. Weird. I kinda freaked out the first time I met him. I was like "I came on a mission to get away from my family (not completely true) and I am serving with someone named Elder Scott who acts like Scott? And I'm working with a recent convert who looks exactly like Brian?" Weird.

The pyramid is the Luxlor. It's this huge pyramid hotel thing that I will never be able to see the inside because I'm not allowed on the strip. There is a huge light on top of it that points straight into the sky and it's on all day and night. They say it gets soo hot that it will burn up anything over it. Kris Angel did some stupid thing where he levitates over it. Pshaw. So fake. You can look it up on youtube.

My farmer's tan is even more amazing now.

We got bunkbeds now. I sleep on top but it's cool. The ceiling fan is right above my head. I can't stretch out too far on my bed, though or I get macked in the face. I already have. Twice. Thrice.

We only go to the temple once every 3 months. I will probably still be here for the next one so you can send them. Well, send them later because I dont want to lose them.

I did get Ellen's letter. It was short and sweet, thank you. Man, mail is really important to a missionary. It's kinda lame, though, because Sister Tobler is the only one who gets the mail, but she doesn't check it everyday! She gets mad sometimes when we ask her if we got any mail. Haha, she can be scary. Brother Tobler can be scarier though.

I got my first popped tire on Saturday. But we fixed it. We got these slime innertube things where they are supposed to fill punctures in if it happens. I think its balderdash, but they were the only kind at Walmart.

Oh my gosh, Transformers 2 is coming out and some of the members just cant stop reminding us. I really don't care a whole lot but still. I hear Star Trek was awesome--even for people who don't like Star Trek. I don't know, I've never seen it. And I won't be seeing it for awhile. Bummer.

By the way could you get me the Jarett Weddle's email address? and the Steffens? and Keith? and other friends email addresses. Please. It's not a rule here that only family members can email.

I need some more stamps too.

Oh, Im forwarding an email from this person who sells mini Preach My Gospel. I need one because my big one doesnt fit in my bag. It would help out a lot. They are only $20. She sends it straight here to me. But she only takes Paypal and I know we have a account right? Anyway, could you just do that for me? Thanks.

Elder Scott's friend who served as a missionary where he lives (New York) came and took us out to lunch to a place called East Side Pizza, which is the closet to NY pizza that you can get here. They fly in their dough from NY. It's actually really really good.
Craig (Elder Scott's friend) lives here in Vegas. He is really cool. Oh, he knows the lead singer of Panic at the Disco because they went to high school together. The lead singer, Brendon, I think, is a member, just inactive. We might go meet him the next time Craig comes down. Make sure you tell Scott because he will be super jealous. Haha.

Thanks for everything.

Elder Richards

Elder Scott was sooo jealous.

Hola

Ok, I just sent you a letter with pics. It should be there soon.

I don't know where the baggage receipts are. I know I have them somewhere but I thought you already fixed that. I think Dad told me in one of his letters that the airlines fixed it themselves. I don't know but I will look for the receipts if you still need them.

It is not a rule here that only family can send emails. But don't worry about giving my address to Alyssa. It's taken care of.

Those camel baks work out real well. That was a good idea for Scout Camp. I haven't been really using mine lately because it's not that hot. It's humid and windy here. It's weird. It just needs to rain. It has sprinkled a little bit but they say it really pours here. I can't wait.

Man, I really wanted to go to Palmyra someday, but you're right. Vegas is better!

It's good that Jeff will be busy. He would get along very well with the Tobler's son, Taft. He is always playing video games. Jeff is lucky, though, because whitewater rafting is super fun.

Can you get me Keith's email and stuff? I wanted to write him too.

My bike is in and it's awesome. The comfortable seat is phenomenal. Oh, man. You have no idea. Elder Scott was sooo jealous. I feel bad for him because he is constantly adjusting his bum. Ha,ha I just laugh at him.

Elder Scott had strep throat the last couple of days. It was torture. We had to stay inside all day. Ahhhhh. It's impossible to read scriptures all day. I wrote some letters and stuff but I wanted to go out and work soo bad. He's better now so we can finally go to work. Yay!

Yeah, so Cole (the recent convert who looks like Brian) got the Priesthood last week, yay, and he got to pass the Sacrament for the first time yesterday.

We moved a disabled war veteran last week too. It took us 7 hrs because it was just me, Elder Scott and one other companionship.
He showed us some of his bullet holes. It was wicked. He really appreciated us helping out. He's not a member and we were able to teach him a little bit on the drive over to his new place. But now he may be out of our area now. Bummer. He really liked the things we shared. The other elders will have to take over now.

That's been happening to us a lot. Like we got a call yesterday morning from a lady who had someone she wants us to teach. But she wanted him to go to the singles ward not our ward so we had to hand him off too. Bummer.

I'm sure that we will find someone to teach soon. We have to have faith that Heavenly Father will lead us to the people he has prepared for us. We must continue to do our best. Please continue to pray for us and all missionaries everywhere.

Love you all. Thank you for the support.

Elder Richards

P.S. I'll need more stamps soon. Sorry.

She loves my magic (everyone does)

Hola,
First thing, my bike is in but I have to wait till tomorrow to go get it. The comfortable seat is a good idea, thanks. My bum hurts. Thanks for the stamps.

This week I feel like we accomplished a lot. There is a lot of potential work going on, but I feel that we can get some new investigators soon. We moved a disabled war veteran named Patrick. He is really cool. It took us like 7 hrs to move him though. It took up a lot of our day. It took so long because there were only 4 of us there. Later on another couple of missionaries came and it sped up. On the way over to Patrick's storage unit we taught him the Plan of Salvation. He really liked it. Elder Scott is convinced that he will be baptized soon. But the only problem is that Patrick may not be in our area much longer. He's kinda homeless. We are working with the Bishop to get him a place to rent for like a month.

Yesterday, on Sunday, we had to bike to Church again. Elder Scott was soo mad because we have to wear our suits on Sunday. He says that this rarely happens. I guess I'm just bad luck. After Church we were able to set up a appointment with a girl named Miley at a member's home. She was at Church last week but she got away from us after Sacrament. She loves my magic (everyone does). So Elder Scott was like "he will show you a magic trick if you let us come over and teach you." It worked.

I got these awesome Care Bear cards because I'm not allowed to have face cards. It's not a mission rule, it's a Toblers' rule. Did I tell you about the Toblers? They are the member family we are staying with. They are really cool. They have 2 kids, Taft and Tarren, who I just found out recently that they are adopted. It's weird because I wouldn't have thought that.

We had to teach the lesson in gospel principles again. That is another reason Elder Scott was mad. I thought it went well. I have really noticed a change in my teaching. I have noticed that promise in D&C about opening your mouth and the Spirit will talk through you. It is happening more and more. I don't think about what to say anymore. I trust in the Lord and the Spirit tells me what to say the moment I need it.

After Church we had dinner with Dan Jenkins family (there are 2 Jenkins in the Ward and 3 Williams--it's so confusing). We had steak. We always have steak. It's either steak or leftover pizza. But, I'm a missionary. I'll eat anything. ha ha Brother Jenkins looks like Christian Bale. He says he gets that all the time. He is a really cool guy though. His kids are soo funny. They have a girl and two boys. His wife made this amazing chocolate cake with caramel and whip cream and toffee on top. mmmmmmmmmmm.

Well that's pretty much it. It's still hot here. It did almost rain a couple of times. Weird, they only get 4 inches a year here in Vegas. I gotta go now. There is a line of missionaries behind me now who keep poking me. I haven't been on that long, geez. That's why I cant spend time fixing the punctuation, sorry.
Love you all. Elder Richards

Dang, I thought I would look older now.

Hola,

My first week has gone by pretty well. My trainer is Elder Scott. He has been out for a year and he is really cool. He acts just like Scott Richards. It's pretty freaky. He mumbles like Scott too. He thinks he is ripped just like Scott thinks he is ripped. ha ha. Great guy though. I have learned a lot. I'm so glad to be out of the MTC.

We went to the Vegas Temple today. It was awesome. It took us forever to get in through because Elder Scott's recommend wasn't working. Rubbish. I wasn't able to email on preparation day because Temple days are preparation days.

It's like 100 degrees right now. It's actually not that bad. I got a Camel Bak so I'm all set for the blazing summer. It never goes below 95 here. But it's dry heat so its not so bad.

My first Sunday here was kinda weird. It was Memorial Day weekend so there was barely any one there. So I wasn't that nervous bearing my testimony to them. After I was done, the Bishop then got up and announced that I was over the age of 12 and they had the documents to prove it. haha. Dang, I thought I would look older now. O yeah, and he announced that I am a magician. Great, now I'm gonna have all the Primary kids swarming over me. I still have the talent though. Elder Scott has seen my money tricks soo many times and it makes him mad that he cant figure them out. Don't worry though, I'm not showing off.

We like to incorporate my magic into the lessons. People love it. We haven't really taught any investigators because our teaching pool was all baptised right before I got here. It's hard because we have such a small ward (West Oquendo Ward) and we don't get any referrals. We tracted for over 4 hrs yesterday and no one answered their doors. bummer. So we have been visiting a lot of inactive people and part member families. But a lot of them fall through too. We did something cool with Cole's mom though. She has a smoking problem but she wants to quit. So as we were running yesterday we found a empty box of cigarettes. so we took it and then rolled up scriptures to look like cigarettes and put them in the box. We decorated the box and called them celestial cigarettes. She takes one out a day then reads the scripture. It was a brilliant idea.
Vegas has some amazing Mexican food, and I'm not just talking about Chipotle. We are going to Chipotle later today though. yum. The members feed us every night. I'm soo glad to be on a bike. Our Stake President Jenkins fed us Italian meatballs the size of my fist! No lie. I'll send a pic later. But Elder Scott and I burn it off on the ride home. Ugh, I hope that bike comes in soon. The seat on the one I'm borrowing is a pain in the butt. Literally. But my leg muscles are getting huge now. It's scary.

I'm glad you got the pics. ha ha I thought you all would like the light sabers. What you do is take a highlighter or scripture marker thing and put it in front of the camera where you want it. you hold it close to the cam and make sure your fingers aren't showing. Then when the flash goes off, it illuminates the marker(s) to look like a light saber.

Well that's all I can think of right now. Lisa please send me Mike's address, thanks.

Love you all. Elder Richards

President & Sister McCracken

May 19, 2009

Dear Brother & Sister Richards:

We are thrilled to welcome your son to the great Nevada Las Vegas West Mission. He arrived safely and seemed very happy and excited to be here.

After we met him at the airport we headed for the mission home for some orientation and training by my Assistants. I conducted some interviews with each of the new missionaries and shared our love for them. It is our desire to work hard at making their mission one of the greatest experiences of their life.

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner together followed by a brief testimony meeting. The next morning we met for an early morning transfer meeting where each new missionary was assigned to their new trainer and zone.

Your son's trainer is Elder Bryan David Langdon, Stephen Phillip Scott who is serving in the South Zone in 7569 Shadow Estates Way Las Vegas, Nevada 89113. Please send all USPO mail to the Mission Office, and we will see that it is forwarded the next day. The approved email site is: myldsmail.net

Our mission stresses hard work, obedience, prayer, and commitment, and we promise that the results will be the greatest two years in the life of your missionary.

Thank you for preparing him so well and entrusting him to us.

With Appreciation and Love,

Kevin D. McCracken, President

But we made eye contact. Boo Yah!

May 16, 2009 from the MTC

Hey Family,

By the time you get this I'll be in Vegas! Booyah! So Don't write back at this address. Love you all.

Oh yeah, and the memory card also. It contains all the pics that I took here at the MTC. There's like 500 pics soo...yeah. Oh, and there are some videos on there. They said you were allowed to take videos here, but not on the mission. But I don't really care that much. There are some pics of random people. I think I deleted those but I'm not sure. I took a lot of pics of the mountains cuz I've never seen them before. OK, the one pic of me and 3 others are starting from the left, me, Elder Warner, Elder Blakemore (The short one who looks like Seth Green), then Elder Hubbard. The other Elders and Sisters in the other pics are in the other district. They are gone now. I know their names bur I can't really mark the pics, soooo.....I think I will remember their names.

The Church is true. Please continue to support me and pray. I can't wait to spread the good word.

Love, Elder Richards

PS I met an Elder who is from Vegas West and is going to Cincinnati Ohio Mission. Ha, ha, we are just swapping out.

Oh yeah, Guess who came to devotional last week. Russell M. Nelson! That's 2 apostles in a row! We must need it or something. I got to hear from both the Russells. After Elder Nelson's talk, Elder Warner and I ran out of the room to see him leave. We were so close, but we weren't albe to shake his hand. But he did wave at me. We were like 20 feet away. But the other missionaries did the same thing so we couldn't get closer. But, we made eye contact. Boo Yah!

Happy Mother's Day

Dear Family,

Uhh, I don't know if you are getting my letters or not, but I thought I mentioned that we don't get to call on Mother's Day because we just got here. Sorry, I thought I had told you. But Happy Mother's Day Mom and thanks for the support!

Why did you take down the burned Tarzan!?! Not cool. That has been there for like 8 years. Not cool.

And, thanks Dad for the spiritual uplifting letters. I read them to my roommates and they really like them.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

I'm going to Vegas--Yeah Baby

May 5, 2009 from the MTC

Hey Everyone,

Elder Richards here (thats sounds so cool). Im totally living the dream here at the MTC. It is a very unique place. I feel like Im surrounded by a spiritual bubble that covers the MTC.

So last week was really confusing. The other Elders are really cool but the campus looks the same. My companion Elder Warner and I always get turned around. Elder Warner is from Wyoming and he is serving in Oklahoma Tulsa Mission. I dont know why we were paired together because I'm going to Vegas. Yeah Baby! The other Elders I room with are Elder Hubbard and Elder Blakemore. They are like perfect together. Elder Hubbard is a big guy and Elder Blakemore is short and looks like the actor Seth Green ha ha. I'll send pictures soon.

I leave from the MTC on May 18. The MTC has got me soo pumped. We went to the Temple today and now I'm like super pumped (sorry Mom, I forgot to hand out the names but I will next week). Anyway I'm getting used to the MTC now so it isn't so confusing. The mountains are humungous. Wow. I kept taking pics on the way up here and Keith was like, why do you keep taking pics of the mountains? I have never seen something like that. It was pretty intense.

I want you all to know that our Father in Heaven loves us very much. He cares for us and wants us to make good choices. I know that this is the best thing I can be doing right now and I'm grateful for your prayers and support. The other Elders were talking about a website call dearelder.com where you can write here to the MTC instead of email because we only get 30 min to read and write emails. So check it out.

Thanks.

The Sisters do.

May 3, 2009 from the MTC

Dear Family,

Today is our first Sunday here at the MTC. We are only allowed to write our families on Sunday and P-day and I have a lot more time this time. The last letter I sent wasn't very good because I ran out of time.

Life at the MTC is getting better. The first 3 days were so confusing and my companion (Elder Warner) and I kept getting lost and turned around. But we are doing much better now.

Our district has grown closer together. We shared stories and got to know one another. It helped me a lot because I'm the District Leader and I have been wanting to know the other Elders.

Our teachers are great. Sister Baxter is from England and her father is a General Authority. She is super cool and a great teacher. I have learned so much from her and Brother Crooks. Brother Crooks is always smiling. He is really cool and funny. He served in the Cincinnati, Ohio Mission a year ago. He has served in our Ward too, but I don't really remember him and he doesn't remember me. That reminds me. In my classroom we found Elder Higgins signature under a desk. I know it was him because under his name he wrote Cincinnati, Ohio Mission. Ha, ha, say Hi to him for me.

It's so weird not being able to shake other peoples' hands. Wow. When they first told me I thought it was a joke. But that cursed Swine Flu...I don't think anyone has it but they don't want to risk it here. There are hand sanitizer things all over the place and Elder Warner and I made a goal to use every one of them. Ha, ha. I know it's not realistic, but almost none of the Elders use them. The Sisters do.

That reminds me, does Lisa or Beth know whether Christina Dunaway is still here? I can't find her.

Love,

Elder Richards

I made it--It sounds so cool when everyone calls you Elder

April 29, 2009 at the MTC

Dear Family,

I made it! I am totally living the dream. My first day was nuts. They kept telling us all this stuff and I get totally confused. But it sounds so cool when everyone calls you Elder. It's so cool. Super Cool!

I'm living with some pretty good Elders. Elder Hubbard and Elder Blakemore look so weird together--but in a nice way. Elder Hubbard is this super tall guy and Elder Blakemore is way short. They are going to Las Vegas West also. My companion, Elder Warner isn't going to the same mission we are. He is going to Oklahoma--which is a bummer because he is a nice companion and we get along well.

Oh, and guess what. I'm District Leader. At first when they brought me in I thought I was in trouble. But I can't wait to get started and learn from this experience. The Spirit is so strong out here. It's so uplifting and refreshing. I can't wait to start learning how to serve my District and future investigators.

Thanks for your support!

Elder Richards

Fun Fact: We are not allowed to shake hands here in the MTC because of the Swine Flu. Weird.
